About Artifice
Artifice is a biannual print journal that aims, by context and content, to showcase work aware of its own artifice.
Artifice was founded by Rebekah Silverman and James Tadd Adcox in 2009. The magazine originally operated as a Chicago-based nonprofit, and later as a division of the small press Artifice Books. Artifice Books published several books as an imprint of Curbside Splendor Publishing before ceasing operations in 2017.
Artifice relaunched in 2026 and is now based in New York.
